I have had a very stressful day today and I needed to get this written down, if i can help just one person with this I will be happy.
As pet owners, we put our trust in to our vets to care for our animals just as much as we do. Well today for me, made me question that! (although I have questioned it many times over the years tbh)
After being told by my mum this morning, that she thought my horse was not far away from passing in the field, I sat for 2 hours with him whist I waited for the vet to come and check him over (or so I thought!)
When he arrive, there was no questions asked, no explanation as to what he was doing and also no examination of my horse. He was literally going to inject my horse and pts without any more than 4 words to me! (where is the horse)
Once I had figured out what I thought was going on, I questioned him. His response ‘well he is old so its probably about time’. As he stepped forward to my horse who was laying on the ground, my horse literally sprung up like a spring chicken, to standing. Now even at this point, there was no questioning and no examination. This vet just told me to stand back because my horse would likely fall fast when he injected him!!
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
I refused point blank at that point, with such a quick change there, how could I not?
The vet proceeded to tell me all sorts of nonsense like I was a halfwit that knew nothing, Dillon was given a painkiller and the vet sent on his way.
My horse from that point on has been standing and grazing in the field all afternoon!!! He is having a check up from a new vet tomorrow.
The point of my story……. If something doesn’t feel right, question it and If you need to, say no! From this experience, they don’t always know best and they are not always right! If I hadn’t questioned him, my horse would be dead right now!
Let that sink in for a moment…..
And on that note, I need an early night! xx
