Lead walking and recalling, when all they want to do is snuff, can be a challenge for owners. ๐Ÿพ YOUR EMOTIONS ARE PART OF YOUR DOG'S TRAINING TO ๐Ÿพ YOUR EMOTIONS ARE PART OF YOUR DOG'S TRAINING TOO! ๐Ÿพ Ever noticed how your dog seems to have forgotten absolutely everything you've taught them on the very day you're stressed, frustrated or running late? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ It's not always a coincidence! The way YOU feel can have a huge impact on the way your dog responds. Dogs are incredibly observant. They pick up on our body language, tone of voice, movements and changes in behaviour, often long before we realise we're showing them. You're approaching another dog and already anticipating a reaction. Your dog doesn't listen the first time so you get agitated. So what can you do? ๐Ÿพ Take a moment before reacting. ๐Ÿพ Give clear, consistent instructions. ๐Ÿพ Set realistic expectations for both yourself and your dog. ๐Ÿพ Reward the behaviours you want to see repeated. ๐Ÿพ If things aren't going well, make the exercise easier or take a break. ๐Ÿพ Remember that not every walk needs to be a training masterpiece! And here's something I think every dog owner needs to hear... Sometimes the best training decision you can make is to stop. Not because your dog has won. Not because you've failed. But because continuing when you're frustrated isn't necessarily going to achieve anything productive. Dog training isn't just about teaching your dog to regulate their behaviour. It's also about learning to manage your own responses. You don't need to be a perfect handler. You need to be a fair, consistent and thoughtful one. And sometimes that starts with looking at the other end of the lead. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿพ Let's be honest... have you ever realised halfway through a walk that YOU were the one who needed a bit of training that day? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘‡ #WagsnWoofs #DogTrainingTips #BalancedDogTraining #DogBehaviour #DogTrainingLincolnshire #SpanielTraining #ResponsibleDogOwnership
๐Ÿพ Have you accidentally created an athlete? ๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿ• Y ๐Ÿพ Have you accidentally created an athlete? ๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿ• Your spaniel is bouncing off the walls. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ So you take them for a longer walk. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ They're still bouncing, so you walk even further. ๐ŸŒณ You add another adventure, a bit of ball throwing and a good run. And somehowโ€ฆ THE LITTLE BUGGER STILL HAS ENERGY! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Here's the thingโ€ฆ You can't always exercise your way to a calm dog. Especially when you've got a working breed that was literally designed to keep going! Sometimes what your dog needs isn't another five-mile walk. It's learning how to settle, having appropriate outlets for their instincts, using their nose and engaging their brain. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ Scentwork ๐Ÿง  Problem-solving ๐ŸฅŽ Retrieving ๐Ÿพ Structured training ๐Ÿ˜ด Learning to switch off Physical exercise is important, but so is mental fulfilment and proper rest. Stop trying to exhaust your spaniel. Start teaching them how to switch off. ๐Ÿ’ฌ SPANIEL OWNERS โ€” does yours have an OFF switch, or are you still looking for it? ๐Ÿ˜‚ #lincolnshiredogtrainer #cockerspanielsofinstagram #springerspanielsofinstagram #scentworkfordogs #dogtraineruk #doglover #dogtrainer #workingdogsofinstagram #workingbreeds
