🐾 Working on Impulse Control 🐾 It's easy for dogs 🐾 Working on Impulse Control 🐾 It's easy for dogs to think every dog they see is there to play, greet, or interact with. But in the real world, that's not always appropriate. Our goal is to teach dogs to: 🐶 Stay calm around distractions. 👀 Focus on their handler. 🚶 Walk past other dogs without pulling or reacting. 🧠 Make good choices, even when they're excited. Remember, socialisation isn't about saying hello to every dog you see. It's about building the confidence and self-control to exist calmly around them. A dog that can ignore another dog when asked is often far more confident than one who feels the need to rush over to every passing pup. ✨ Calm is a skill... and like any skill, it takes practice. 💬 How does your dog cope around other dogs? 🐾 TOP TIP TUESDAY 🐾 🚫 Stop looking for the quicke 🐾 TOP TIP TUESDAY 🐾 🚫 Stop looking for the quickest fix. Start building lasting habits. I sometimes get questions like: 💬 "What's the fastest way to stop my dog pulling?" 💬 "Can you fix their recall in one session?" 💬 "Is there a trick that works fast?" I wish it were that simple! Dog training isn't about finding a magic trick—it's about creating habits that your dog understands and trusts. Your dog learns through: 🐾 Repetition. 🐾 Consistency. 🐾 Clear communication. 🐾 Fair guidance. 🐾 Redirection when wrong 🐾 And yes, sometimes by 'punishment' (this is not the scary word it's made out to be btw!!) Five minutes of focused training every day will achieve far more than one hour every few weeks. Small, consistent efforts create big results. Remember... your dog doesn't need you to be perfect. Just 5 focused minutes a day can make a huge difference over time. Here's your challenge for this week: 🐶 Minute 1: Call your dog from a short distance and reward them with something they absolutely love and have a party with them!! 🐶 Minute 2: Move to a different spot and repeat. 🐶 Minute 3: Add a little distraction, but make sure your dog can still succeed. 🐶 Minute 4: Play a game of "catch me" by running away as your dog comes towards you. Make coming back the best game ever! 🐶 Minute 5: Finish with one easy, successful recall and a jackpot reward before ending the session. Remember: ✔️ Keep it fun. ✔️ Always reward your dog for coming back. ✔️ Never call your dog just to end the fun or tell them off. ✔️ Finish while your dog is still engaged and wanting more. Consistency beats marathon training sessions every time. Your dog spends the vast majority of its life with you—not with me. Lasting results come from the little things you do every single day: ✔️ Being consistent. ✔️ Following through. ✔️ Practising between sessions. ✔️ Building clear communication.
